Nanotransporters for Anticancer Drug Delivery

چکیده
Nanomedicine is a relatively new field of medicine aiming to overcome usual problems that appear in disease treatment. Natural or artificial nanodevices, with dimensions similar to those of biological molecules in human body, can carry drugs more efficiently and mostly with no side effects on healthy tissue than drugs alone. Nowadays, there is a huge interest in nanotechnology for detection, imaging and cancer treatment because cancer causes death of millions people every year. There are already some nanoparticle based drugs, mostly in liposomes, approved for clinical use or under clinical investigation. Many attempts are made to improve nanoparticles sizes, shapes and surface modifications that lead to prolongation of drug circulation in blood stream and targeting to cancer cells. Thus small molecules like polyethylene glycol and targeting ligands like folic acid, peptides, antibodies, aptamers and nucleic acids are bound on the surface of nanoparticles with the aim to increase specific cell uptake. Very promising are multifunctional nanoparticles that combine both diagnostic as well as delivery role together. In this chapter, we describe recent progress on utilization of different nanotransporters including dendrimers, micelles, liposomes, protein-based carriers, * Corresponding author, e-mail: [email protected]. Modular nanotransporters: a multipurpose in vivo working platform for targeted drug delivery
BACKGROUND Modular nanotransporters (MNT) are recombinant multifunctional polypeptides created to exploit a cascade of cellular processes, initiated with membrane receptor recognition to deliver selective short-range and highly cytotoxic therapeutics to the cell nucleus. This research was designed for in vivo concept testing for this drug delivery platform using two modular nanotransporters, on...
متن کاملThiol-functionalized mesoporous silica as nanocarriers for anticancer drug delivery
The present study deals with the synthesis andfunctionalization of mesoporous silica nanoparticles as drug delivery platforms. SBA-15 nanorods with high surface area (1010 m2g-1) were functionalized by post grafting method using 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTS). The parent and thiol-functionalized SBA-15 nanorods were used as nanocarriers for an anticancer drug (gemcitabine). The charac...

متن کاملTripeptide arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) for delivery of Cyclophosphamide anticancer drug: A computational approach
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed on tripeptide arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) as an efficient drug carrier to deliver the commercially famous cyclophosphamide (CP) anticancer drug within ethanol solution. The most negative binding energy (-5.22 kcal/mol) was measured for the CP-RGD-7 created through the H-bond interaction between the P=O (phosphoryl) oxygen atom o...
